The 2024 Madison-Milwaukee GTG. This year marks the 30th annual Madison-Milwaukee GetTogether to be held in the Milwaukee area on Saturday, August 17th beginning at 1 p.m. The GTG is an all-band event, so all hobbyists are welcome. The address is 801 E. Park Blvd, Oak Creek, WI 53154. Your host for this DX event is Tim Noonan. You can email Tim for more information at dxing2@aol.com or call him at 414-813-7373.
Colombia FM. We recently received an email from one Rubin Medina. Rubin lives in Colombia and wanted us to be made aware of his blog about Colombian FM stations called FM Colombia DX. Since our own FM database doesn’t have a database of Colombian radio stations, his site could be useful to DXers who receive stations from there via skip.
CHCM 88.3 HEARD IN SPAIN. On May 27th, Spanish FM DXer Mauricio Molano in Cecares, in the western part of Spain, heard CHCM Marystown by double hop E skip at roughly 10:25am, EDT. Mauricio wrote this in the E17GL blog: I have managed to fufill another of my DX challenges: to catch an FM station from the other side of the pond! It was this afternoon, during the opening of Es, which had started around 1200Z and brought me several stations from the Azores Islands with good signals. A couple of hours later, our colleague Larry Horlick (Colley’s Point, NL) began picking up Spanish and Portuguese stations.
In the first minutes of the opening was when I caught the CHCM-FM (Marystown) signal on 88.3 with VOCM programming. On 88.5 I have another signal but very weak. I assume it is CBN-1-FM CBC-R1 Saint John’s, but it will be difficult for me to identify it 100%. Both frequencies are very difficult in my listening place (Aldea del Cano, Caceres) due to the presence of semi-local stations on 88.2, 88.4 and 88.6 MHz. This year the DX season has started late, but it has started very, very well!
Asymmetrical IBOC Sidebands. WPBG-FM 93.3 Peoria, IL just completed its test of symmetrical vs. asymmetrical IBOC sideband transmission and their report to the FCC is here. KINB 105.3 in Kingfisher, OK and WUSF 89.7 in Tampa have asked the FCC to give them one more year to test. KQAC 89.9 in Portland, OR had its request granted to use asymmetrical HD. KQAC was granted 5.9kw alanlog, 185 watts LSB and 120 watts USB.
ADTH 3.0 BOX.
The ADTH ATSC3.0 converter box is now available from the ADTH website as well as from Solid Signal at the introductory price of $89.99. We thank Bill Hale for the heads-up on this lower price.
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC UPDATE. From Jim Thomas… I just wanted to pass on the note that I FINALLY got the ENTIRE DB of Dominican Republic FM stations updated in the WTFDA FM DB, all 300 stations. I had to manually update each one – the transmitter power and the Lat/Lon for each tower location. It took me about 6 weeks to get it finished, squeezing in the updates as I had time.
TEF WEBSERVER MAP. This map of US TEF Webservers may help you ID a station if skip is arriving at your location from that area. Another webserver has been noticed in Toronto occasionally. Hartford, Tabernacle NJ and Miami are on 24/7.
